For maybe over a month now, I think I may have been suffering from bulimia. During almost every meal, I lose control of myself and tend to overeat. A lot. Then I go to the bathroom and throw maybe 3/4 of it up. I've been doing a lot of research lately and I've seen that bulimia can be very fatal and can ruin your body. I really want to stop and I've been trying hard to, but for some reason I cannot seem to stop. A problem I have, though, is that I am currently in a foreign country and will not go home until the 12th of August. Is there any way I can help myself stop so I won't keep this up until I can go home and get help?
Answer:
Look at a full portion of what you think you should eat. Eat only that amount, and do it slowly. Don't eat fast, or you'll end up eating more. It's kind of like the big straws at many fast food places. They get you a big straw, so you'll drink faster and order more. Eat slow, and see how you feel. See how fast you feel full. You should be eating several small meals a day as opposed to just 1 or 2 big ones. Not over-eating will help you not-puke. Eat slow, hang out with whoever you can, so they can be around you. If you have someone you can be completely honest around, use that person to gage how you're doing. Don't purposely throw up. Stomach acids can also ruin your teeth. And make yourself a promise as well. Before heading back, if you talk to your family, make sure you tell them about this. This will help them understand the level you're at, and it will become more likely that you get the help you need. Finally.. promise yourself that you're going to get the help you need. People die from this. Young teenage girls develop habits like this, they never tell anyone, and then they destroy their bodies. Just like the matrix, without the body, the mind cannot survive. Take care of yourself!!!
Just make yourself eat slowly and stop eating when u feel full and rest for a liitle while after it .
Two thoughts come to mind.STOP AND SELF CONTROL. You are in control and you are headed down a bad road. When you get back home get some professional help...you are worth it.
If youre really stressed that might be why you are overeating. Drink a sip of water inbetween EVERY bite...and don't chew really fast. If you're overeating on foods that are mostly salty, try a different diet...eat a lot of fiber/bread/vegetables. Most likely, you wont want to keep eating it.
Think about your meal before you start eating. Only make or order enough to satisfy a normal appetite. After you've eaten that much, stop eating and do something else. If you can, take your food to a public place outdoors so that you'll be around other people and you won't have ready access to a bathroom.
Do get help when you return. Bulimia is an awful disease.
Bulimia is very serious and dangerous eating disorder that is usually accompanied by Body Dysmorphic Syndrome, where the body that you see isn't the body you have. The way you are describing your eating habits sounds like the binge purge cycle. The main question is do you believe that you have a weight problem? I work in health care and I tell my patients that if something is bothering you, then it worth telling someone else. If you worried about recieving healthcare over seas, contact your insurance company and ask them what there policy about overseas illness. Please don't wait until August to get help, the longer it goes on the harder it will be to stop.
Wish the best of luck
Excerpt from the National Eating disorder Association
"Bulimia Nervosa has three primary symptoms:
Regular intake of large amounts of food accompanied by a sense of loss of control over eating behavior.
Regular use of inappropriate compensatory behaviors such as self-induced vomiting, laxative or diuretic abuse, fasting, and/or obsessive or compulsive exercise.
Extreme concern with body weight and shape.
Eating disorder specialists believe that the chance for recovery increases the earlier bulimia nervosa is detected. Therefore, it is important to be aware of some of the warning signs of bulimia nervosa."
I too am suffering from the same problem and I am trying to get well. It's not easy, I have been doing this for years, you really don't want to go thru what I've been thru mostly depression along with a lot of medical problems, anemia, low blood pressure, low potassium, low iron, acid reflux, stomach aches, etc... I have been in the hospital several times because of what i have done to myself.
I finally got some professional help and it is helping but it is not something you recover from overnight. If you have only been doing it for a month STOP NOW, BEFORE IT'S TO LATE! Find yourself a good doctor not just a shrink but a regular doctor also and have a check up, try not to put too much food on your plate and only eat that or eat 6 small meals per day, try to remain around other people after you eat and don't go running to the bathroom. I could go on forever but the bottom line is you have to want to stop doing this to yourself and find out what the problem is. if you want email me and I will be happy to answer any questions you have. Good Luck.
stopping isn't easy, as it will eventually take over your life.
bulimia isn't worth it in the end. you're in the beginning stages of it though, stop now if at all possible.
try to eat small portions throughout the day...
best of luck to you %26lt;3
